I don't know half of you half as well as I should like;
and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
It's only been a day since the election has long since been over and I swear if I have to hear about how this election was a referendum on Iraq and that the country is sending a message to President Bush one more time I think my head will just explode. Sure that's what the media has been saying the election was about in the days leading up to it, and yes voters said in exit polls that they felt strongly about Iraq, but I think the pollsters neglected to ask if they felt strongly in favor of Iraq or strongly against.
Long story short, this election was not about Iraq and it never was. Sure the democrats out there may have been motivated to vote against the President's party, but something tells me they would have done that anyway, no this was about Republicans and how we put them in office and they choose to take our good faith and spit in the face of it. They have abandoned conservative ideals and left us with nothing, so we, the conservative base of America that put them in power said, "you've had power long enough and now it's time to go." Was it the right decision to send the party a message? I'm not sure, but I don't think it would have been the right decision to do so in a presidential election year, so maybe, just maybe the Republicans can get their act together before 2008 and we can be given a good reason to vote for them again.
You may be asking, especially if you're democrat/liberal, why I say that they've abandoned our ideals after all the Democrats and media have been doing nothing but trash them as ultra conservative ever since they've taken office, the problem is their record doesn't even remotely reflect that. We've had 12 years with Republicans controlling congress and 6 with them controlling the presidency as well and how many conservative things have we gotten out of that? Well we got a few judges and some tax cuts, but we've also gotten record spending and government programs up the wazzoo. We've been given liberal spending, liberal social programs, they haven't secured the border, and while yes they're doing a good job in Iraq we don't hear that from anywhere (of course we're not going to get it from the media, but even from the New Media we're not getting it all that much).
Republicans left conservatives out to dry and we don't exactly like being screwed with, so the country voted for more conservative Democrats over liberal Republicans. Let us all hope that we can get some conservative Republicans in 2008 and turn this country in a direction that will be worth going...lest we continue down the road that both parties are taking us now.
I can't go down the road that the political parties are heading. I am a Christian and not aloud to head down that way. (just a little political satire to reflect the truth of their actions)
Well, you took the words right out of my mouth. I was about to go and blog the same thing. But as usual, you are ahead of the game.
To say that America is leaning more Democratically is untrue as well. Eight states had ballot initiatives, as is customary on election years, proposing a preemptive ban on homosexual marriage. Each one of those states passed those bans. Don't hear that in the news too much, do you?
Actually Dan you're a bit incorrect, 9 states had such an initiative and 8 of them passed it, what the media is actually saying is that since Arizona didn't pass it, it's a huge "setback" for conservatives.
Additionally, several states passed laws to get rid of eminent domain (including California), Michigan got rid of affirmative action, and several states passed laws which targeted illegal immigrants.
The country is hardly moving to the left, yet that's all that the media is reporting. Sure they won a few initiatives, but overall conservative values reigned supreme (and don't even bring up minimum wage if you're arguing on the other side because the country as a whole is too stupid to understand this issue).
Wow, thanks, Tom. We don't hear much about the political world in our little WOLBI bubble, and it's nice to get some insight on what's going on in the country (as well as your take on it). Props!
I wonder what the government would do if people tried to get a party called "The Christian Party" into gear? Probably something along the lines of trampling on our rights in the name of trampling on the minorities rights... =P
