I don't know half of you half as well as I should like;
and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
Well for starters I figure I should let you all know why I haven't updated recently. No I haven't died nor have I fallen off the face of the earth or anything else equally as interesting. My reasoning is actually interesting in a sense. Thanks in part due to contributions from viewers like you; I have begun a major overhaul of my entire site. Everything is about to change, and I must say it's going to change for the better. In fact if I do say so myself the new look is mighty fine indeed. I don't want to tantalize you too much with information about something that you won't see for a few days though, and I'll get on to the entry. If I may offer one suggestion though, start using Firefox it'll be worth it.
Ground was broken today on the monumental project to build a replacement for the World Trade Center. It has been dubbed the Freedom Tower and it will be 1,776 feet tall marking the year that the United States declared it's independence from England. For reference, the World Trade Center towers were approximately 1,365 feet tall, and the world's current largest skyscraper (Taipei 101) stretches to 1,671 feet. Personally I think this is a fantastic idea. My first thought was that they should rebuild the towers exactly as they were, but I'm all for building a structure that is not only the tallest in the world (I'm not sure how long that will hold up or if it even will be by the time it's finished), but that has a height with some significance. I can think of no better way to tell the world that you can knock us down but we'll bounce back, and we'll do so with a vengeance.
It is imperative that America does not forget what happened on that infamous day of September 11, 2001. Since that attack occurred we went from being complacent apathetic Americans, to a country united under God with the one goal of stopping terror. Not long after we found this united front, we lost it, and the country has spiraled down even farther. We have not only neglected to learn anything from September 11th, but we have moved even farther in the wrong direction than we were prior to that fateful day.
Rebuilding a tower in place of the World Trade Center is important to help us remember, to help us realize what it takes to keep this country safe. Today is also the day that a film about the attacks is opening. Universal is releasing the movie entitled 'Flight 93' and it follows the story of those who were on the 4th plane which thanks to the heroism of the passengers did not hit its intended target. I want this to be a good movie; I really really want it to be. The country could use another wakeup call, another reminder. Beginning to rebuild the tower isn't enough, but the last thing we need is another true story raped by the Hollywood elite. If anyone wants I'd be willing to see this one and let you all know if it's worth it...I really hope it is. We need to wake up.
nice post. Keep it up ;) ~Sugar
ya0.. i was thinking... what a better way to cap off our activities on saturday (if they pan out) than to see that?
I remember hearing back a little while ago that the producers of the movie would only release it if every single one of the family members of those who died on flight 93 approved of the movie.
You can guess if they approved of it or not.
yea! a new look! I can't wait to see it!!!!
oo, really? a new tower? (I love this, I no longer need to sort through all the newspaper and/or tv news junk, I just come here for the latest events of interest! XD)
they better not butcher that movie... it would be just like hollywood to have the heros on that plane profess to be gays or something... and that would really get me mad... I pray that it'll be good tho...
dang! I was hoping it would be 1337 ft tall :D
haha leet feet tall
Sounds interesting, and I concur. Your Lamoka countdown thing is working on my school computer, which is really weird . . . anyhow, good reminder.
W00t! for the new tower. :)
