I don't know half of you half as well as I should like;
and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
I've always found gambling to be a humorous form of "entertainment." I just can't comprehend how anyone can be foolish enough to waste money on something that has so little chance of success, and yet many people - for the thrill I suppose - do just that.
The men's College Basketball tournament is one of the highest bet on sporting events throughout the year, and it always amazes me how close the odds people get when it comes to predicting the winner and by how many points.
During Saturday night's game between Duke and the University of Connecutiut, UCON was up by 3 points with 3 seconds to go, when Okafor was fouled and sent to the line. He missed the first basket but to the horror of those that picked Duke to upset (or to be closer than 2 pts to UCON) he made the second basket pulling UCON ahead by 4 with 3 seconds to go. The game was over, UCON celebrated and Duke was finished...but Duke's Duhon drove down the field and shot a desperation 3-pointer, with no meaning to Duke, that fell in as time expired.
What's the point, Duke still lost? You might ask, I'll tell you the point. In that 3 second period where Duke went from down by 4 to down by 1, anywhere from $30 to $100 million dollars switched hands from those that bet on UCON to those that bet on Duke.
WOW!!!!! -- Moral of the story, don't bet, because anything can happen.
